Teenagers

 Treatment for Teenagers

Having the perfect “Hollywood Smile” is almost considered the norm these days and with the pressures of social media and theirs peers most teenagers are now keen to get their teeth straightened.

For most children / teenagers treatment starts at 11-13 years when all the adult teeth are erupted and fully in the mouth.

Most teenagers boys and girls are usually treated using standard metal braces but clear braces or Invisalign can be an option for certain cases

Teenagers Braces

Traditional braces or “train tracks” are the treatment of choice for most teenagers (Invisalign may be an option for teens in a few select cases). These are small metal or ceramic squares that are glued to the patient’s teeth then using wires and regular adjustments the teeth are slowly moved to the correct position. Teenage treatment usually takes 18-24months
We outline some of the more frequently asked questions about teenagers treatment below and a video on how to care for the braces.

At East Coast Orthodontics an initial visit is a full orthodontic consultation.  We will take photos of your child’s teeth then do a full examination before sitting down with you to discuss our treatment recommendations, timescales and give you a quote.

  • I have decided I want my son/daughter to have their braces at East Coast Orthodontics - what next?

The next step will be to go and get x-rays taken, we will give you all the information for this at your initial consultation.

The x-ray clinic will email your x-rays to us and once Dr. Griffin has reviewed them and all is dentally well we will contact you to make an appointment to have the braces put on

  • How long does it take to put the braces on and is it sore?

The appointment to put the braces will be 1hour and 15mins. Putting the braces on only takes 30/40mins but there will be some consent forms to sign and a full run through of how to care for the braces  with you and your child.

Getting braces on is not sore just uncomfortable but you can expect some soreness later on that day and the next. (advice on this will be given on the day)

We will then expect to see you every 6-8weeks until treatment is complete.
